Players looking for a racquet that’s easy to swing, comfortable and spin-friendly should look no further than the Wilson Pro Staff 97 LS. The 18×16 string pattern allowed our playtesters to generate loads of topspin and action on their shots while still being able to consistently put the ball where they wanted. Tiffani, who struggled with the other Spin Effect string pattern – the 16×15 – found the boost in spin she was looking for without having to sacrifice any control of her shots. Serves and returns were where the maneuverability and spin potential of the Pro Staff 97 LS really shone through. This racquet was coming through the hitting zone quickly and easily, unlocking our playtesters’ variety and creativity with each shot. However, the one downside for a couple of the testers was the weight of the frame. Even though it was very easy to swing, a couple of our bigger hitting testers found some instability and a lack of plow through, especially against bigger hitters. Also, shots that would normally penetrate through the court with heavier racquets were just sitting up for their opponents. While it might not be the best option for players who are used to heavier frames, this Pro Staff 97 LS proved to be an excellent lightweight choice with tons of spin potential!
